Bush to Push HD on China Trip

From John Schmid at the Pike Press, Milwaukee, November 10, 2005. Harley Davidson would very much like to get into the Chinese market, which is the biggest consumer market in the world and getting better for a company like HD all the time as burgeoning enterprises bubble increasing numbers of Chinese into the upper middle class. And there have been some agreements made over the past year between HD and Chinese officials. Still, many existing restrictions on a range of things like engine displacement and where you can ride, have hampered HD's plans to get dealerships set up within China.

Milwaukee's mayor, Tom Barrett, sent a letter to President Bush urging him to raise the issues in discussions with China's
President Hu Jintao during his visit to Beijing next week.
