2006 Harley Davidson XL Sportster

Milwaukee- From AutoChannel.com. The Motor Company has long made it's money, in American motorcycle sales, on the trusty Sportster. The "Sporty" is the "intro" bike for a lot of riders and the motorcycle of choice for many women riders. It's the intro bike because the Sportster anchors the low end of th line, which makes it the most affordable Harley. It's been the woman's choice since Harley found out that women's legs are shorter than men's. Thus the 2006 XL, which features a low 26.25 inch seat height and pullback handle bars.

For years the Sportster has been the Harley training bike. The 883 is a relatively small and light for a Harley, the Sportster for years came with a teensy gas tank, and it wasn't particularly comfortable for long rides. In recent years, HD has demonstrated learning- the Sportster now has a rubber mounted engine and lots of options to address the gas tank and seating comfort. And the 1200 will get up and go in that small frame.

This isn't to steer new riders away from a Sportster. The 883 is a great size for new riders. If you want to make sure you enjoy the sport before committing big money, starting out with a used Sportster is a very good choice. You won't have to worry about the high torque issues with sportsbikes and they're far more comfortable, especially for boomers.
